What are ur views on this.
While i ultimately believe that everyone is a Child of God i do think those that commit mass murders should be punnished, is that evil of me?
In the end, I suppose it won't matter because they'll be judged.

It does depend on the situation. If someone just stole a car they shouldn't be given the death penalty. But when someone kills another person, you're taking their life, something that they had a right to. So when you take someone's life, you're kind of giving up your own, you know?
It definitely depends on the situation, but I do agree with it for some things.

I'm afraid I strongly disagree with both of you.Just my own opinion but it matters to me.Who gives us the right to play judge on other peoples lives? If someone has committed a murder,be it on their own heads but aren't we really just being like them by executing them? How do you show people that killing people is wrong..by killing more people??

I disagree with the death penalty but for different reasons than erin.
1. There are stories of people who have been punished and put to death when they havent committed any crime. I dont think that we should risk that happening.
2. Theres always a chance they might change there ways. Killing them will prevent them from having that chance, while murder is the unpardonable sin it can be forgiven. The Lamanites are an excellent example of this.
3. However there are certian cases where death is the only option, like when Nephi killed Laban, or the war trials after WW2

I love your #2 point. As for number 1, thats why i've decided that proof such as DNA-100% needs to be given. And more then one person must have been killed.

I agree with what's been said. I think the death penalty should hardly ever be mentioned, but still be available. Only for extreme cases, beyond even that of murder. (I took a forensics class my last quarter of high school. There are some crimes that have been committed in the past that would make you want to walk out of the room)
To Erin's point, no. It is not our right to judge. But it is our right to protect. If someone is too dangerous to be free in society then some action has to be taken. Jail may confine a prisoner but it's been shown a large number of times that it doesn't usually change him or her for the better.

Just to illustrate how extreme I'm talking, these person would not only kill people, but skin them and hang the skins around their house. I'll spare you some of the worse ones. And because of my ACL I can't serve in August. We're thinking they'll let me go in January.

I think that the death penalty is appropriate for very vicious criminal acts that result in the death of another.
Right now in Nebraska a three judge panel will decide if an illegal alien should receive the death penalty by lethal injection. When he was originally convicted to receive the death penalty.....Nebraska's only method of execution was the electric chair. This form of execution was later deemed unconstitutional. Since that time the state has switched to lethal injection.
This illegal alien was befriended by a couple in Nebraska. He returned to their house in the middle of the night and broke in. He sexually assaulted and killed the couples three year old daughter!

I feel there are some times that regardless of the death penalty, there are some people that need to die.
(Yes, I know it sounds sick.)
I believe anybody who would kill, or pay another to murder another should be wiped off the Earth. Also anyone who would murder based off jeleosy, sex, material objects in general, for control, or some other sick reason poses a threat to others because he or she has shown that they can't be trusted. Of course, the first choice should always be containment of a murderer, but if it's not possible, and they are still a threat, then they deserve to die.
The above statement sounds horrible, but it is fully within the commandments. The commandment may say "Thou shalt not kill." but it is wrong. Looking in the foot notes of Exodus, or wherever the commandments are, the correct translation is "Thou shalt not murder." There is a difference.
Murder = No reason, and by that I mean no good reason. Other words, influenced by Satan.
Kill - Defence against an attacker/killer, food(hunting), food( in Zombie Apocolypse scenarios), terrorist, those who would unleash the powers of hell on others. Things like these are reasons I see that would at least be not for a bad reason. (Although I do question the Zombie Apocolypse scenario.)
So, my first choice would containment, If possible. Othewise, there is only one other way...
