i'm going to lay it down for you. im in 9th grade. im in honors english and geography. im in algebra 2 ( highest math class ) im in dance company at school im in spanish 2 and biology. im last but not least in seminary. this moment in time im in all the highest classes i can possible take. now AFTER school i dance at a company called Local Motion. i dance 9 hours a week. and once you think about thats a lot also consider im on dance co at school. umm....im an over achiever now that im in 9th grade grades start counting tored college. ummm we all know im brunette right? i have light brown hair well my friends call me blond! or at least i should be im not the BRIGHTEST. im pretty stupid t moments actually. i know im gods child but its true. i have other talents and god did not bless me with knowledge.... im having a real hard time keeping up im the type that wants to go to byu when im older and such so im determine to get straight a's... with dance not argeeing with my shecdule that doesnt seem to happen. i get every asstment done!!! no problem there... the problem is studing. i have to study twice as much as anyone to do well on tests. i had 5 tests today!!! FIVE!!! and last night i had dance for 5 hours.... 4:30-9:30. i got my asstments done first..... then went to dance... i had no time to study, i didnt do well on any of my tests. and at my school test are worth 35% on finally grades... WHICH IS A TON!! my math teacher actually had the gutts to tell me infront of the class i did the worst on the test out of all her classes. i got 34/100. and in math you can retake it BUT she averages the 2 scores. so even if i get a perfect score on it ( which is way unlikly ) the highest i can get is 67% which is a D- im not a good test taker... and its just i cant keep up i stop doing my scripture reading for seminary to because i dont have time for it... any advice? i could use any i dont know what to do... i NEED a's and latly im getting d's..... AGH!!! i dont fail! ive never failed before in my life! help!

why wont any one respond? I'm so sorry Alyse. I haven't been on very much in the last two weeks. I'm taking honors classes too, but if my only choice was between getting B's to D's in honor classes...... then I would opt to take the regular classes instead. I have several friends that are just as smart as the honor students, but are taking the regular classes instead and they have a little less stress, but more time for other activities too! I use to play volleyball and basketball besides my karate lessons, but now I'm limited to one activity that's not church related and I chose karate. My priorities are: 1. church and family, 2. seminary, 3. school work.........when these are done to the best of my ability........then the other activities like karate and the computer come into play for me. My mom has made it quite clear to me......that if I don't keep my grades up........then there will be no karate, no computer, no pets and little or no fun in my world until I improve. Now having said all of that......I would like to see if this problem can be turned around for you. 1. Would you be willing to limit your dancing to one or two nights per week to give you more time for your studies? 2. Do you have some friends that are serious about getting good grades that you could study with? They must be serious....or you could really waste some valuable time here! 3. I always make some really small flash cards that I can write vocabulary words on with definitions on the other side. I also make them out for important dates and concepts in most of my classes. I fasten them with a rubber band and pull them out and study them 4 or 5 times a day for a short 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I think that the frequency, is what really helps me to remember them. Listen, when my brother is driving me to school .....I pull them out and review them, when I first get to each class......instead of just wasting the time.......I review them until the teacher starts class. I also look at them in the evening after school. I really want you to do well in school. If you lived in my city .....I would help you in person, but since we don't I could try and help you some on Friday evenings on this site......if you want. I could proof-read a paper or discuss concepts for a possible test. Just let me know ahead of time and I'll try and be here and tell me the nature of the subject so that I can jog my memory a little before hand. Lol I love you sis! I hope that my post was of some help to you. Jenni

thank you so much for responding...i really needed to hear from someone. here's the thing with my dance after school. it is my only sportt its not like i do mulitpy things....the reason i dance 9 hours a week is because im on the highest team and im required to take that much. i have to be in so many classes and it requires me to be there 3 times a week. now i do something smart and on the nights when i dont have dance or only a little bit i do as much homework as possible even if its not due for awhile.... the thing is...the reason im in honors is YES it looks better on a college application. and the only difference is more homework... but i dont have a problem with getting homework done. its just i have so much things going on in my life i dont remember everything for test. the whole thing with the flashcards is a great idea. ive actually already thought of that and did that last year....but....the problem is i always forgot about them...i also forgot that i should be studing for something. the reason for this is every moment i get to rest i use it....im always so tired cause i put all my energy into everything i do... now with dance....ive already made up my mind if dance got in the way of school id drop out...but the thing is....thats the only exercise i do....i would seriously become less active fitness wise and i wouldnt be able to keep up my skills if i wanted to try out for something at my highschool. like drill or dance co....but heres the thing....i got my oakcrset application to work there next summer and if i get that job i cant be on those teams anyway so it wouldnt matter as much if i drop out of dance right now.... i think what ill do is just wait 2 monthes....if i cant keep my grades up and i get the job then ill drop dance and have more time to study, thanks though jenni. your really amazing there is something id love for you to proff read before i send it off in the next few weeks...that oakcrest job i have to write a paper on for the application. like they give me a list of what it should say and im afriad ill struggle with it....maybe you can help me with it?? this is what it needs to say so if you OR ANYONE ELSE wants to help me....id love that.....
on a separate sheet of paper, please write a brief biographical sketch. Include the following: *any specialized training or experience in camping or other fields which might have a bearing on this application * what contributions you think an LDS girls camp can and should make to it's campers. * your reasons for wanting to spend a summer at Oakcrest Camp * the contributions you feel that you would be able to make.
thats what my paper is about. help much!! and thanks a ton jenni.....oh one more thing...i cant go into lower classes....the only class im really struglling in is algebra 2 and i have to take it cause i took geogemtry last year....so lets pray for the best....
i love you sis!!

I love you too sis!! Rest assured that I will definitely put you in my prayers and I will be more than happy to proof-read your application. Math is one of my favorite subjects, but it is difficult to explain online.........so this is where a good study group would come in handy. Please keep me posted on your progress, because I care and want the best for you! Jenni

i belive that in my priortes it goes 001.school work 002.Church and family 003. friends
usally school work is done before mutual and church but if not i skip mutual.
I didint know you were a freshmen... i will be next year.
I would switch to regular Math.
I love this quote "its better to have B's in all honer class's then A's in regular" So bring those grades up but switch to math regular.

Wow, sounds rough. I'm glad to say that I know where you're coming from, though, so maybe I can help out. I'm a sophomore, actually taking a college course in sports medicine this year, and both soccer and hockey practice can run up to three hours. Here's my two cents: When you're studying, pick out the bold words or the main topics, and actually say out loud what they mean to yourself until you won't forget it, and if you can, match it up with something. For example, in seminary: 33:11 Exodus - When the Godhead speaks to Moses. I remember there are three members of the god head, and they speak to Moses. 3 to 1. I never forget it. If you can shorten your studying like that, it helps save your time and your effort. I sure hope dancing means enough to you, five hours sounds brutal! I have the same kind of connection with my sports though, so I know you probably don't want to quit. If you think your teacher will let you, maybe you could do your homework in the studio, so that you keep up but can listen for the routine. Worth a try, right? That's all the advice I've got to offer, hopefully it'll help; you've got my sympathy!

There was a talk the President Hinkley gave, and in it he said that "If you say you have too much to do, you do."
I don't have much advice on test-taking. I'm the opposite of you. I do pretty well on tests and it's just doing homework every single day that tends to drive me crazy. I do have a suggestion on scripture study--it's an idea from my aunt. You have time to brush your teeth, right? Well, just read your scriptures while you brush you teeth. Keep your scriptures by your bathroom sink, and just hold them open and read with one hand and brush with the other. That way, you'll remember to do it every day, and maybe even twice a day.

wow thats REALLY great advice actually!!! the scriptures while i brush my teeth. but im not a fast reader so i might have to do that when i do my hair! thanks a ton for that that will REALLY help me! thank you oh so much! and about the no time thing with dance... id love to do it during dance....but im in my studio learning, memorizing, practing, conditioning the 5 hours STRAIGHT! i dont have time to stop and crack open a math book! BUT the saying it outloud a million times does help i know i have done that before but forgot about it thanks a ton that will help me out a lot!!! you guys ROCK!!! so much!!! thanks a million x2 that really is going to help me.... and guess what? we started a new chapter in math AND I TOTALLY GET IT!! and this weekend i have a 4 day weekend and hit the books hard and catch up on everything and re take my math test and get some extra points in that class BUT GUESS WHAT I LEARNED TODAY!!!! my math teacher dropps asstments and quizes for so many days in a row with no tardies in each class....and my period is the only period we have had no tardies..... and we get to drop 4 asstments already!!! WHICH IS A RELIEF ON MY GRADE!!! god is watching over me and helping!!! im ever so greatful....
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! THANK YOU TO THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!

We got some kids crying out of laughter when we got to the Ms. Piggy + Kermit the Frog impersonation part of our food unit skit.

Lol, nice!! I love making fun of teachers, the ones who have a great sense of humor anyways.
We had a topic sort of like you once, it was a conditions unit. One guy had to see the doctor because he was really buff and had a high squeaky voice. The other guy had to get checked in because he couldn't help but do a dance move every five seconds.
Then I was the last one. I walked really slow and droopy half way across the room, swatted my forehead, sat down gasping for air and taking a drink of water, standing back up, walking to the chair while heaving for air, and then I sat down looking exhausted.
"...H-hello...my n-name is...Senor Notch..."

OH SNAP!!! im guessing thats your spanish teacher! thats funny! my teacher has a good since of humor...like she was mad but in a joking way. she even makes fun of the fact thats she is short. but oh my goodness thats hillarious!! i love making fun of teachers. i use to be student body president and i do assumblies all the time and this one i made up was making fun of a ton of the teachers....the students in the audience couldnt stop laughing! it was great!
anyway...hows school going?

Nice, school body president. I wish we had that. The best we have are student council and valor dictorian, which all end up getting pretty arrogant despite how they're supposed to be helpful. I was in there once, never made that mistake again. Anyways, on school lol, pretty good. I don't have any of my core friends in any of my classes, but I've got enough school friends that I just hang out with them more. The classes this semester have been a little testy for me, but I'm doing fine with a handful of A's. I'm really determined to go to BYU-Provo for college, so I have some strong motivation.
