Well Lizzy, I believe that what is said about us being the most righteous generation is not necessarily true.. However I do believe that it can be the truth. At this point in time we not only have the most righteous generation, but we also have the most evil generation. Since it's the last days, Satan is trying his hardest, so the Lord has saved us for last because He is also trying his hardest. I've heard it said that God has saved his best for last, but at the same time Satan has saved his best for last also, so the temptations and things going on in the world is a lot worse than it ever has been, that's why God saved us for these days because we have the power to withstand this temptation. However, although we have the power to withstand it, that doesnt automatically make us the most righteous people. We have to do our part, we have the potential to become the most righteous because of all the temptations we're faced with. But we have to rise up to our potential. Also, I feel bad saying we're the most RIGHTEOUS people because I don't believe that's true. I believe that we were saved till this time to come to earth because we were meant to face the trials and temptations that are on the earth today, much like Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and all the pioneers were put on the earth at that time to do their part. Our trials are a lot different from them. We're not faced with leaving everything we know behind and walking for hundreds of miles through rain, heat, and snow with little to eat and little clothing. We don't have to go through that today, but we are all each on our own "trek" where we face trials and temptations of our own such as easy access to drugs, pornography, idleness because we have so much, etc. All of which can be our trials or temptations, all of which are our personal "trek". We were saved for the last days, but people had to be saved to bring forth the church too. Everyone's part has played a significant role in the grand scheme and what will ultimately be the end of this life and the begining of a new life. Without each person we wouldn't be where we are today. So it's important to do our part, because this is the time we were saved for, this was the time that the Lord wants us on the earth to do our parts, and we need to figure out what that is. And I wouldn't say we ARE the most righteous, but have the potential to be ranked among the most righteous because what we are faced with. I know a lot of elder people say that we have to face a lot harder temptations than they did, and that may be true, but if they hadn't done their part we wouldn't know all that we know and we wouldn't be able to rise to our potential. We're all equal in the sight of God, and by saying we're the most righteous makes it seem like we're better than others which isn't true. But we were put on this earth at this time of so much evil for a reason, and it may be because we are able to be good amongst all the temptations, while others may not have been that strong so they did their part, which was just as important, at another time.. I hope that makes sense.. but here's a few quotes from conference that I think are awesome : "I have said many times that I believe we have the finest generation of young people that this Church has ever known. They are better educated; they are better motivated; they know the scriptures; they live the Word of Wisdom; they pay their tithing; they pray. They try to do the right thing. They are bright and able, clean and fresh, attractive and smart. These are very substantial in number. More of them go on missions than ever before. More of them marry in the temple. They know what the gospel is about, and they are trying to live it, looking to the Lord for His guidance and help." -Gordon B. Hinkley sorry the links aren't working... prolly my bad, but just look them up on lds.org, or it might be easier to copy the quotes I gave from them and then paste it in a google search bar library.lds.org/nxt/gateway.dll/Magazines/Ensign/2004.htm/ensign%20september%202004.htm/we%20must%20raise%20our%20sights.htm - that is a talk by Elder Henry B Eyring written in the Ensign, the whole thing is awesome but you should at least read the first part but if you don't here's a good quote from it: speaking of the youth- "Many of them are remarkable in their spiritual maturity and in their faith. But even the best of them are sorely tested. And the testing will become more severe" "You have come into this world at a time that has been anticipated from the beginning—a time prior to the Second Coming of the Lord, in which, on one hand, the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored in its fulness and, on the other, there is great turmoil, confusion, and wickedness. The proving ground that you were born into is wonderful, affording great opportunities, but at the same time there is danger in abundance, even danger to one’s very soul. Now is the time to commit yourself to the Lord as to what you will become during this mortal probation. Along with your parents, living prophets, and the scriptures, the Holy Ghost will help you distinguish between right and wrong so correct decisions can be made. " John B. Dickinson and 2 more "I have great confidence in our young people as a whole. I regard you as the finest generation in the history of the Church. I compliment you, and I have in my heart a great feeling of love and respect and appreciation for you." Gordon B. Hinkley- good talk!- www.lds.org/portal/site/LDSOrg/menuitem.b12f9d18fae655bb69095bd3e44916a0/?vgnextoid=f318118dd536c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=b5a9226fecfdb010VgnVCM1000004d82620a____&hideNav=1"You are not just ordinary young men and women. You are choice spirits who have been held in reserve to come forth in this day when the temptations, responsibilities, and opportunities are the very greatest." - For The Strength of Youth This is in the "Message From The First Presidency" you should read the whole thing! Sorry haha one more thing that I heard at EFY! "As the forces around us increase in intensity, whatever spiritual strength was once sufficient will not be enough." Elder Henry B Eyring.

oh my gosh lizz. im so glad you brought up this topic. because when i was at oakcrest a while ago some one had said that. one of the counselors said we are the finest generation. we are the strongest. and i loved that she said that. but it really got me thinking. i started thinking about the pioneers and i thought " well, look what they went though. i could never do that. they must of been more faithful and stronger then me" and i told this counselor this and she said to me " have you ever consider that they are looking down at us right now and saying, i cant believe what they are doing? what they see and go through everyday" casey can i just say i LOVE what you said. that other topic that i brought up titled 3 hours. about the friend? i hope you dont mind but can i forward her what you said? i truly believe that will help her more then you know. casey said everything i was going to say. he is just to fast for me. thanks casey for your strong words. and he is so right on everything he just testify.

lol yeah you can send it to her, that's cool It's just my honest opinion. I mean yeah we have a lot to go through, and its a lot more intense temptation wise, but that doesn't mean everyone before us didn't do anything or weren't as good. Because they went through things that were just as hard, just different things. But since there is so much evil today, you have to be better, you can't just be sitting on the line. But yeah haha I'm glad you liked what I had to say

Well, as my stake president said, "No one was foreordained to fail." I believe that in these last days, God has sent forth some of his brightest lights to shine in the darkest night. I think that just overall, we are a chosen generation. If someone is a valiant spirit, they will be valiant on either side they are fighting on.
Also, remember the scripture in Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
I love that scripture because it describes what we face today. The pioneers had to face many many physical trials, but we are surrounded by spiritual trials that constantly test our integrity and testimonies. Just remember that the Lord saved us for this time because he knows we can do it. We just have to believe in Him and in ourselves and do it.
